Google releases Chrome 108: Know what’s new

Chrome 108 is available now for Windows, macOS and Linux. The new version will be distributed via the browser’s update function. Generally, it is necessary to restart the application to complete the installation. Android and iOS users can get the new version from their respective app stores.

Google started the process of making Chrome 108 available yesterday, which is the most recent version of its browser, which comes with some new features. This new version comes with the correction of 28 security vulnerabilities, and for that reason alone, its installation should already be mandatory.

According to the release notes, Chrome 108 fixes 28 security flaws, however, Google only provides details of 22 vulnerabilities. Information about the other vulnerabilities will remain classified until most users have updated to the new version.

Google rates the severity of vulnerabilities as high and medium. An attacker could inject malicious code and run it in the browser sandbox. Google is not yet aware of any exploits for the security issues in question, but the update should be installed ASAP.

In addition, Chrome 108 for desktop and ChromeOS has a new battery and memory saving feature that you may notice in everyday use. The company is working on a new Memory Saver that will automatically hibernate tabs in the background, keeping you informed of what’s going on.

Google and Apple have historically offered different methods for how apps draw content to the screen and how virtual keyboards are integrated into their respective mobile operating systems, Android and iOS. This is also true for browsers, with Chrome generally behaving differently than Safari. Generally speaking, the default behavior on iOS is that the keyboard slides over the currently visible content at the bottom of the screen, while the keyboard on Android resizes the visible section of the website. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages, and it can be confusing for users and programmers alike to have to consider both.

And with this new version of Chrome, Google wants to make it easier for developers to take these differences into account, allowing them to choose whichever method works best for their sites.
