If you’ve got old accounts sitting around, especially ones with weak or leaked passwords, they’re at risk. The safest move? Download your data, then delete the account for good.
A recent survey showed nearly 1 in 3 people have had accounts hacked, and many never got them back. Cybercriminals use brute-force logins, stolen credentials, and phishing tricks to take control. Once they do, your name, photos, and old posts can be used to scam others.
Instead of signing up for every platform “just in case,” only keep accounts you actually use. And if you’re on the fence about deleting, at least secure them with two-factor authentication or passkeys.
Bottom line — don’t let your old profiles come back from the dead. Delete what you don’t need, and lock down the rest.
