Google has opened access to its AI chatbot, Bard, eliminating the need for a waitlist. Created as an assistive tool, Bard employs generative AI to generate text for various purposes, including cover letters, homework, coding, translations, and more. Similar to ChatGPT, Bard utilizes AI to provide human-like conversational responses.

However, Bard’s performance has faced criticism since its debut, struggling to provide accurate information or maintain coherent conversations. Despite these challenges, Bard distinguishes itself by leveraging Google’s search engine, enabling access to a wealth of online information. This places Bard in direct competition with Bing Chat, Microsoft’s AI-powered search engine powered by GPT-4, OpenAI’s advanced language model with internet access.

To use Google Bard, users can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Google Bard page and log in with their Google account.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Bard chat window, designed to be user-friendly. Key features include:
    • Reset chat: Clears the current conversation to start anew.
    • Bard Activity: Prompt history is saved, while conversations with Bard AI are not.
    • FAQ: Provides answers to Bard-specific questions.
    • Updates: Lists the history of updates made to Bard AI.
    • Help & Support: Offers assistance and feedback options.
    • Text area: Enter questions or prompts at the bottom of the screen.
    • Microphone: Allows for voice input.
    • Conversation: Displays the ongoing chat dialogue with Bard AI, including response drafts, feedback options, and reporting capabilities.
    • Edit: Offers the option to edit prompts for revised answers.
    • Account: Accesses the user’s Google account.
  3. Start writing prompts and queries in the text area and submit them to Bard AI for responses.
