iPhone with iOS 12? Urgent Security Update
Apple is releasing a new update for iOS 12, which comes in the form of iOS 12.5.6, with it comes the fix for a major vulnerability that is being exploited.
This vulnerability has already been fixed in the latest version of iOS (version 15.6.1), as well as being fixed in iPadOS 15.6.1 and macOS Monterey 12.5.1. This update fixes the same security flaws, but in an earlier version of iOS, in this case iOS 12, with one of the bugs being a kernel-level vulnerability allowing applications to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
The other is a bug in WebKit that allows arbitrary code to run through “malicious web content”. The truth is that iOS 12 was originally released in 2018, along with the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, and this will give devices that cannot be updated, a new update that guarantees them some security.
But here are the devices that should still be running iOS 12:
iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus
iPod touch 6
iPad Air (1st generation)
iPad mini 2
iPad mini 3
iOS 12
As always, you can get the update by the usual means by going to the Settings application and selecting General and then selecting the Software Update option. This will download the update in the background and ask you to install it when it’s ready.
