Interior Design – Useful Tips for Absolute Beginners
Successful interior design requires a precise definition of your own needs, adaptation to spatial possibilities and a bit of extravagance. How to exercise moderation and get the most out of our interiors? What is the correct rhythm of patterns and colors? What characterizes the right interior design? Why is a specific style not everything?
Interior design has a long history – after all, for centuries we have attached great importance to the appearance of the space that surrounds us. Our home was, is and will be an opposition to the outside world full of dangers and chaos. The choice and arrangement of a place of residence has always been guided by certain rules: it is our little microcosm, our command center, where our loved ones are staying and where everyday life goes on.
Even today – although we live much faster and our everyday life has long since become settled by technology – we repeat old habits when choosing, building and arranging apartments. In the past, in order to ensure the prosperity of the household, a bottle of alcohol was embedded in the wall. Today the meaning remains the same, but the bottle lands on the table when we invite friends and organize a housewarming party.
Our houses are no longer our fortresses, but they certainly remain our showpieces, so when arranging them, it is worth remembering a few simple rules. Here are some tips that will make interior design a bit easier, even if you are completely inexperienced in this field. To work!
Interior design from scratch: space planning and interior design
When arranging the interior, it is worth making a clear design of what we want to achieve. You need to think carefully about the function of each room and clearly define our requirements. If we have a sufficiently large space, it is worth dividing the house into two zones: private and public. When each of the household members receives their four corners in which they can feel at home, it will be easier for us to create and take care of a common space that will have a more representative character.
Guests are most often welcomed in the vestibule or hall, which is why interior design in these places should focus primarily on adequate lighting and sufficient space. The entrance area to the apartment should be clean and tidy. It will be good to limit the number of furniture – this way, we will prevent the appearance of clutter and overloading. A large wardrobe and / or clothes hanger and a shoe cabinet will suffice.
Two large mirrors hung opposite each other or two identical lamps shining soft light will make the space seem more spacious and friendly. A good idea when arranging the entrance area is to use a different floor than in the rest of the house – it will constitute a stylistic border and clearly distinguish this space from other parts of the house.
Arrangement of the entrance area in a colonial style
Many of the apartments advertise themselves as spacious. There is a reason – more space is associated with prestige, wealth and success. It is enough to look at the high ceilings in pre-war tenement houses. Of course, not everyone can afford a large area, so it is worth reaching for a few proven ways to optically enlarge our houses and apartments. The simplest of them will be to eliminate any unnecessary equipment or replace them with smaller ones. Although bulky furniture is roomy, it too easily dominates the space in which it is located. Our comfort suffers from this.
Let the sunlight in
In the fight for space (and a better mood!), Light will also help us. Let’s let more of it inside and, if possible, install large-format windows that will make the room seem larger than it really is. However, if we do not have space for large windows, let’s try to make the best use of the smaller ones. During the day, let’s leave them uncovered. Let’s give up heavy curtains and roller blinds – light, bright curtains that will gently let the sun’s rays through will be much better.
Arrangement of the interior of living rooms with large windows
The right choice and combination of colors is of great importance for our well-being. When choosing colors, you should be guided by your own sense of aesthetics, the function of the painted room, as well as the impression that a given color evokes. We must remember that not every shade will be appropriate for a given place – hardly anyone will paint all the walls in the living room black.
