Large IPTV Pirate Network Shut Down

As part of a joint operation, the European agency Europol and the Spanish authorities arrested 4 people behind a vast illegal streaming and IPTV network.

Yesterday, November 16th, the 4 suspects were arrested in Malaga and their network of just under a hundred people was put into action. The investigation in question began in 2020 and aimed at the distribution of illegal audiovisual content, including IPTV, to a base of more than 500,000 European users.

The website in question thus offered access to more than 2,600 television channels and a catalog of 23,000 films and series. An entire advertising network designed to promote the site was set up to attract new customers.

During the searches, investigators disconnected more than 32 servers located in France, Spain and the Netherlands, and more than 2,800 euros in cash were seized, as well as computer equipment and vehicles worth 180,000 euros.

The network was made up of at least 95 resellers located in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Greece and the United Kingdom: the latter repurchased subscriptions at wholesale prices to resell them to their customers via access or configured IPTV Boxes.
According to the Spanish police, the criminal group could thus generate more than 3 million euros a year, the funds being invested in the purchase of property in Malaga, but also through investments in tax havens.

Only the head of the network, made up of 4 people, was arrested, but other arrests are expected to occur shortly throughout the investigation, relaunched by the documents and evidence seized in the first searches.
