macOS 26 “Tahoe” Public Beta Brings Smart Features, Fresh Design & Deeper iOS Integration
Apple has unveiled the public beta of macOS 26, codenamed Tahoe, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most impressive macOS updates in recent years. With a sleek new Liquid Glass aesthetic, smarter integrations, and productivity-boosting features, Tahoe feels like a bold step forward for Apple’s desktop operating system.
Among the standout additions are smarter calling and messaging tools, improved Spotlight functionality, and new keyboard shortcuts that make everyday tasks quicker and more intuitive. The iOS-inspired refinements bring macOS and iPhone closer together than ever before.
Although the beta has proven stable and polished enough to tempt early adopters, it’s generally wise to hold off until the official release this fall. That’s when the full experience will be ready for daily use—and I’ll be sharing my comprehensive review then.
Compatibility: Will Your Mac Run macOS Tahoe?
macOS Tahoe is compatible with all Macs running Apple silicon—so if your device has an M1, M2, M3, or the latest M4 chip, you’re good to go. A few Intel-based Macs are still supported, including:
- 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020)
- 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
- 27-inch iMac (2020)
- Mac Pro (2019)
However, Tahoe marks the end of the line for Intel Macs. Apple has confirmed this will be the final macOS version to support Intel processors, and Rosetta 2—the tool that enables Intel app compatibility on Apple silicon—will have drastically reduced functionality in the next release. This clearly signals Apple’s continued transition toward an all-silicon Mac ecosystem.
