Microsoft working on a cheaper ad-supported Game Pass subscription

Game Pass is without a doubt the best way to enjoy a large library of games at an affordable price. Microsoft could offer gamers new offers, with even cheaper subscriptions. It is that according to what is being revealed, Microsoft is doing a survey among users, where it seeks to know if users are willing to subscribe to a cheaper subscription if certain limitations were imposed on them.

So the research imagines a situation where Game Pass would cost just $3 a month, versus $10 it currently costs. For that price, the user would have access to the same library of games, but not the original titles on launch day. They would have to wait six months to take advantage of these Microsoft exclusives, like Starfield or the next Fable. EA Play would also not be included in this offer.

The survey also mentions the arrival of advertising. Microsoft suggests that ads would be broadcast with each game released, a way to offset this lower price. Finally, this subscription would give the possibility to play solo only.

For now, nothing is final yet, as it’s just research on a specific community. But it shows that the Redmond company is looking for ways to attract a new audience, at a time when Game Pass seems to be reaching a peak. The truth is that currently, more than 25 million players are subscribers to this Microsoft service. A real hit, but there’s always room for more. By diversifying its offer and offering cheaper subscriptions, the platform could easily increase its number of players.
