Netflix adds Spatial Audio to Selected Shows and Films
Audio Player Loading Netflix has finally started providing spatial audio for select original programs. The streaming service has partnered with audio giant Sennheiser to bring even more immersive sound to shows and films including Stranger Things Season 4, The Adam Project and The Witcher. Netflix Spatial Audio is compatible with all devices and all streaming plans, and doesn’t require surround-sound speakers or home theater equipment, the company wrote in its blog post announcing the new feature.
Spatial Audio transforms normal stereo output into expansive, three-dimensional sound that aims to mimic the experience of watching movies in a movie theater. The feature works best with compatible headphones and earbuds like the Apple AirPods Pro, but will also improve sound quality from laptops or standard TV speakers (although the difference in the latter media is fairly negligible). To get the full list of Netflix content with spatial audio, just type spatial audio into the streamer’s search bar. If your device’s audio output is already set to stereo audio, you don’t need to adjust any settings to try it out (the feature also becomes the default audio setting for two-channel setups).
Take a spin on the spatial audio for an even more terrifying tour of Netflix’s latest season of Stranger Things, whose demogorgons and murderous villains now seemed primed will. The streamers’ launch of the long-awaited feature brings Netflix in line with competing platforms Disney Plus, HBO Max, Apple TV Plus and Hulu, all of which offer spatial audio support for compatible movies and TV shows.
