Qobuz: Hermès of Music Streaming
Founded in 2007, the French music streaming service Qobuz cultivates its difference with an offer focused on listening quality and extensive editorial work.
Spotify or Apple Music are the two platforms that dominate the market but let’s not forget that France is fighting back valiantly with Deezer, which is about to go public and claims more than five million subscribers. And there’s also Qobuz, another tricolor streaming service that’s been around for almost 15 years and has thrived in the shadow of the industry giants. The platform, which takes its name from a very special stringed instrument used in shamanic rituals by certain peoples of Central Asia, plays a decidedly high-end score. Qobuz offers source quality music streaming up to Hi-Res 24bit/192kHz. Adding to these listening conditions is rich editorial content consisting of album reviews, biographies and selections that invite the listener to discover and delve deeper into the artists’ work.

Qobuz reminds us of the spirit that reigned among record shops, with that common side among insiders, those recommendations that come like the nugget we pull out from under the counter, accompanied by a, you really need to listen to this ! With good equipment, the audio quality is really there. Editorial content brings real value by opening varied and original doors to a work or an artist’s work. Qobuz is read almost as much as it is listened to, and that makes a real difference to other music streaming services. Enough to justify a price positioning above the competition while appealing to informed music lovers and lovers of good sound.
High-fidelity music streaming.
Qobuz streams the music in source quality without touching the file. This can go up to 24bit/192kHz. Some of its competitors remaster all audio files while respecting the artist’s quality decision. Compression and degradation are no longer technically justifiable. Today, the bandwidth, even on cellular networks, is good enough to support high resolution.
