Rumored Two-Stack OLED Upgrade could make Apple’s Next iPad Pro bit Expensive

Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro models, expected to launch next year, could come with a hefty price tag due to a rumored display upgrade. Reports from South Korea suggest that Apple may use a two-stack design for its next-generation OLEDs, with two light-emitting layers rather than one, which could make the displays brighter and longer-lasting than the current ones. However, this upgrade comes at a cost. The new two-stack screens are estimated to cost around $270 for the 11-inch model and $350 for the 12.9-inch model, significantly more than the $100-$150 cost to produce the current displays. If these rumors are true, Apple may pass on some or all of the additional cost to consumers, making the 2024 iPads even more expensive.

While these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, the new displays may be worth the investment for those who want the best possible visual experience on their tablets. Most OLED tablets are not bright enough to offer a true HDR experience, but the tandem structure of the new displays may give Apple an edge in the market. However, consumers should consider whether they need the latest and greatest iPad or if a slightly older and more affordable option would suffice.
