SmartPhones Increasingly Becoming Cause of Insomnia

The increasing use of smartphones is affecting our lifestyle a lot. Daily activities are slowly becoming digital centric. Social media has also presented many challenges in front of human health, especially mental disorders. The biggest challenge among these is the reduction in the hours of sleep.

In 1879, Thomas Alva Edison invented the light bulb and brought a revolution in life by providing the world with its alternative in the absence of the sun. A five-star hotel in New York advertised in the newspapers ‘Here you can feel the day even at night’ after decorating its building with these lighted electric bulbs. And now; While mobile phones have come in almost every hand of the world, this difference of day and night has completely disappeared. This is gradually becoming the biggest and most dangerous intervention ever done in the Natural Cycle of Day and Night, because everyone is getting affected by its negative effects.

People Engaging In Social Media

Today about 90% of teenagers and 70% of adults have their hands entangled in social media. About 45% of these people are such that they will always be present on it. In 2012, where a person used to use it for an average of one and a half hours, now it has increased to two and a half hours. As the activities of life are gradually becoming digitally centric, this average of hours is only going to increase.

Social Media Changes

Surely this social media has done a great job of making our life simple, comfortable and convenient. But as the other side of the coin, it has put human health in front of; In particular, many challenges of mental disorders have also been presented. The biggest challenge among these is the reduction in the hours of sleep, displacement of its time, disruption of sleep, which further increases the risk of taking the form of dangerous diseases like depression and dementia.

Inner Rhythm Of Life

There is an internal rhythm of our life, which moves in harmony with nature and there is sleeplessness etc. For this reason we feel hungry and sleepy at a given time. With this natural feeling, the nature of nature works round the clock. For example, in nature, when the sunlight eventually ends, then our brain automatically releases a hormone called melatonin. Due to its effect our alertness starts decreasing. Now the brain starts giving signals to our body that ‘leaving everything and prepare to sleep.’

Social Media Experiences

We all have the experience of using social media, and are almost the same with little difference.  And we do this not only during the day, but also at night. Probably do most at night. Think that before sleeping, check your mobile once. It has become an essential rule of everyone’s life.

You must have noticed that the maximum amount of light emitted from the mobile is of blue light. This blue light affects the level of our hormone called melatotin. Seeing this light, the brain starts thinking of it as the light of day. This reduces the release of melatotin, which used to give us sleep. Now our mind starts becoming alert.

Effect On Sleep

As a result, it takes longer to fall asleep even after going to bed. Sleep is also not deep and good. Due to the disturbance of our internal rhythm, the timing of its arrival and opening is also disturbed. There is a lot going on these days – FOMO Fear of Missing Out. That is, lest I be left behind. That’s why we not only want to respond quickly to messages received over the phone, but also expect others to respond quickly. This fear has filled our mind with unnecessary worry and tension.

Before sleeping, if we watch some sad video, or listen to some thought-provoking facts, then they directly interfere with our sleep. Our mind gets entangled in them. That’s why psychologists and sociologists say that at least two hours before sleeping one should try to keep themselves away from this social media. At least fifteen minutes before it should be completely separated from it. It would be better to sleep by keeping your mobile out of the bedroom, so that when you wake up at night, you can protect your eyes from the blue light emitted from the mobile screen.
