The Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Gmail coming soon

As you may know, the race for Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been in full swing since the launch of ChatGPT last December. Microsoft has already leveraged its investment in OpenAI by integrating ChatGPT with Bing and Edge. Recently, the company from Redmond went further by introducing Bing Image Creator, a truly revolutionary image generator with artificial intelligence. For its part, Google is stepping up its efforts to stay ahead of the competition.
Last week, Google confirmed that features powered by AI and machine learning are planned for its Workspace products such as Gmail or Docs. These tools will let you compose emails in Gmail, help you write documents in Docs or even generate formulas in Sheets, and these are just a few examples. Shortly after this announcement, Google said it would start testing these features with “trusted testers” in 2023. Well, it looks like the company is already laying the groundwork for the arrival of AI, at least in Gmail.
In fact, as the folks at 9to5Google report, the latest version of Google’s email client already features new interface elements dedicated to AI. They particularly noted the appearance of a “Help me write” button on drafts. 9to5Google managed to activate the button and shared images of its use. Tapping it opens a text entry field at the bottom of the screen, prompting you to “Tell Gmail what to write for you”.
By providing a detailed description, you can get a preview of the text in AI form. Unfortunately, the current version of the application does not provide a preview, much less a result. Additionally, they claim to have spotted a “Refine my message” button. This tool would allow the AI to improve your email wording, be it in terms of style, spelling, syntax or conjugation. When the AI finishes its work, it will be possible to insert your text in the body of your email or get another proposal by clicking on “See other”.
At the moment, it is impossible to know when these tools will be activated and made available to all users.
