Twitter blocks Third-party Applications

Recently, third-party applications to access the Twitter social network suddenly failed without an explanation for the events. Until today, the blue bird social network has always allowed third-party applications to be created to access its platform, and for that it has even provided an API to facilitate this situation.

Now, it seems that Twitter no longer allows third-party applications to access its platform, and it is almost certain that this is directly associated with the absence of ads (from the social network itself) on these platforms.

Revoking access to these third-party applications is absolutely “intentional”, say the folks at The Information. A technical manager at Twitter bluntly wrote on the company’s internal Slack that there is no technical issue or malfunction. The lack of reaction from those responsible for the social network in recent days demonstrates that it is increasingly distant from this scenario.

An employee who works with the social network’s product partners asked when they would have official communication on the various points of explanation for this block. To which a marketing manager replied that they had started to work on a text, but without revealing great details.

The nature of the tradeoff suggests that this choice to block third-party applications without warning went down like a bomb. Nothing had been planned in terms of communication to inform the first interested parties: the users.

At the same time, the page for developers of third-party applications, with technical information about the Twitter API, lost all its content and is no longer online.
