Elon Musk had already promised to remove inactive Twitter accounts, announcing in November that accounts inactive for 15 years would be deleted. It is however not known as how long an account must be inactive before it is flagged for deletion. Musk also suggested that accounts that had been dormant for over a year could also be targeted.
In a separate tweet Musk also said that his platform is developing a process that will inform users if their tweets have been deleted through a practice known as “shadow banning”.

Users will be able to appeal the ban if they are notified that their tweets have been deleted. He also mentioned that the social network is working on a software update that will show users the true status of their account.
