Over the past two decades several museums located in the Gulf have opened, drawing on the turbulent story of the dhow trade and the pearl industry to present an idealized view of the Gulf as a crossroads for the world. But certain museums are seeking to disprove this notion by offering different perspectives on the past that shed light on the dark sides of the region's rich and cosmopolitan past. For instance, the Bin Jelmood House is one of these museumsthat focuses on the impact of human oppression in the region and urging the elimination of these practices.
