Scientists have discovered hundreds of mysterious stars in the center of the galaxy. These stars have been discovered by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) through the Meerkat Telescope.
The Beginning of the Universe 13.8 Billion Years ago
According to the report, the formation of galaxies began soon after the Big Bang explosion that started the universe about 13.8 billion years ago.
Spent a lot of time looking at the mysterious image
“I’ve spent a lot of time looking at this image in the process of working on it and I never tire of it,” says lead author Dr. Ian Heywood, from the University of Oxford, Rhodes University and Sarao.
Image captured by the Brilliant Telescope
Ian continued, “When I show this image to people who may be new to or unfamiliar with radio astronomy, I always try to emphasize that radio imaging hasn’t always been this way. Meerkat has great forward viewing capabilities. It has been a true privilege to work over the years with the SARAO collaborators who built this magnificent telescope.”
These Mysterious Stars are Remnants of Supernova
Indeed, the latest image reveals new supernova remnants. When massive stars explosively end their lives, their material shells are left behind, including rare nearly perfect spherical examples. Astronomers have got to see these stars for the first time with mysterious ‘radio filaments’.
The findings of the international team of astronomers have been published in ‘The Astrophysical Journal’. The Milky Way is made up of stars with a spiral-shaped central band-like structure that contains 100 to 400 billion stars including the Sun that formed about 4.5 billion years ago.
