Walking Briskly for an hour reduces the risk of Heart Diseases

Everyone knows that walking is good for health, but walking at a brisk pace is also good for heart health, few people will know this. Recent research from Brown University of America claims that women who walk faster than slow walkers have a 34% lower risk of heart failure.

During the study, researchers analyzed the health records of 25,183 women aged 50 to 79. Among them there was also mention of the walking speed of women. These participants were tracked for about 17 years. During this, 1,455 women suffered heart attacks. Women who claimed that their walking speed was more than 4.8 kmph were 34% less at risk, while those who averaged near 3.2 kmph were at 27% less risk.

Reduced risk of Heart Problems
According to the study’s lead author Dr. Charles Eaton, walking speed is a measure of heart health. If you are not able to walk fast then you should be alert. In women who were at risk, the process of getting enough blood from their heart to the body was getting disrupted. It is a problem of aging which can be improved through better lifestyle.

Researchers believe that due to fast walking, the process of blood circulation in the body remains balanced. The heart works better. This also reduces the risk of other heart-related problems.

Research on 27000 women
According to this study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, due to slow walking, some kind of damage to the heart muscle can also be done. The results of the study clearly show that faster walkers get more benefits than slow walkers.

Scientists say that this study strengthens previous research done on 27,000 women in Britain, which said that fast walkers have a 20% lower heart-related risk. It is also clear from the results that by improving walking speed, you can keep good heart health.

Benefits of Brisk Walk equal to a Week’s Workout
Researchers believe that an hour of brisk walk a week can reduce the risk. This is equivalent to walking at a moderate or slow pace for two hours a week. That is, for women who are not able to walk fast, walking at an average speed is also beneficial. Not only this, walking briskly for a short period of time is as beneficial as working out for 150 minutes a week.
