Big Research on Deadly Ebola: Virus hides in the Brain, then attacks after Years

The disease caused by the Ebola virus is quite rare and life-threatening. This virus can spread to people from an infected animal or from a sick or dead person. On Wednesday, a Major Research Paper was published in the Journal Science Translational Medicine regarding this. In this, scientists have said that the Ebola virus hides in the brain during treatment and after years can kill the patient by re-infecting him.

What is Ebola virus disease?

Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a serious disease that can even lead to the death of the patient. Worldwide, 25% to 90% of the patients suffering from this disease die. This disease is caused by a virus named Ebola. It was spread over 2 locations for the first time in 1976. These are- Nazara (Sudan) and Yamabuku (Congo). It is named after the Ebola River (Congo).

Disease Spreading In Africa

Jiankun (Kevin) Zeng, a scientist involved in the study, says that some people who have recently got the Ebola virus in Africa, in fact, some of them have already suffered from it. This is especially seen in the Guinea country of West Africa. The person behind the outbreak of Ebola virus disease here in 2021 was a person who became a victim of this virus 5 years ago. That is, from then till now the Ebola virus was intact in it.

To find out where the Ebola virus hides in the body after treatment, Geng and his team conducted research on monkeys. Scientists found that 20% of monkeys that had recovered from severe Ebola virus infection had the virus present in a part of their brain – the ventricular system. The virus infection was over in every other part of the monkeys’ body.

According to Zeng, two monkeys continued to be infected with the Ebola virus even after treatment, which led to their death. There was a lot of inflammation in his brain and a dangerous infection of the virus. It has been told in research that in patients with good immunity, the Ebola virus is able to hide not only in the brain, but also in the eyes and testicles.

Ebola Virus Infection Is A Big Threat To Mankind

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease caused by the Ebola virus is one of the deadliest diseases ever known to humans. It still remains a big threat in many countries of Africa. This disease was spread here 3 times only in 2021.

According to Zeng, with the ongoing research on the Ebola virus, the vaccines developed for it and the existing monoclonal antibody therapeutic treatment, we can prevent this disease by understanding it.
