Elon Musk : ‘The woke virus is making Netflix impossible to watch’
Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, never tires of giving his opinion on everything from his Twitter account (to which he has offered, for that matter, a million dollar offer to be his largest shareholder). In this case, the creator of Tesla has responded to a tweet about Netflix’s stock market crash in a blunt way: “The woke virus is making Netflix impossible to watch.” In case the big N had little with this week’s debacle.
Although Musk has not specified which series he considers infected with the “woke virus”, he did reply to another tweet that said “Not just Netflix. Movies in general, video games, television, everything is infested with this year’s woke garbage because they’re afraid of offending a green-haired crazy woman near the ban button. There’s nothing original anymore, except for what’s coming from Japan and Korea, ironically.” His reply, “Right, can you please make science fiction and fantasy that is at least” mostly “about science fiction and fantasy?”. Following this tweet there were dozens of recommendations, of course.
It was not the only post on the social network to which Musk has responded: “The woke virus is the greatest threat to civilization,” commented Pranay Pathole (whose user has a background photo of ‘Rick and Morty’, a series in which Musk himself voiced, but whose message is obviously woke). Musk, in his thirteenth, answered a brief “Yes”.
The last week has been a debacle for Netflix: to the drop of 200,000 users (largely caused by the closure in Russia) is added the stock market crash, the cancellation of several animated series and, now, the words of Musk, that always move investors. Everything seems to imply that this is not a good time to be on the management team of the big N, which has to choose if its priority is not allowing account sharing, making better content or making Elon Musk happy.
