New Google Play Store Policy : Call Recording going to End on Android
Call recording on Android phones is going to stop soon. But it will not happen completely. Google has recently updated its Play Store policy, in which many changes have been made which will be effective from May 11. The change from the new policy will have a major impact on the call recording application available on the Play Store.
Changes will be made with the new Google Play Store policy
The Accessibility API cannot be requested for remote call audio recording, which means that the apps will not be allowed to record the call. This means Truecaller, Automatic Call Recorder, Cube ACR and other popular apps will not work.
Recording feature can be used in the phone
If your Android phone’s dialer has call recording feature by default, you can still record calls. Google has revealed that the pre-loaded call recording app or feature does not require accessibility permissions, which is how native call recording will work.
“If the app is the default dialer on the phone and is also pre-loaded, the accessibility capability is not required to access the incoming audio stream,” said a presenter at a Google webinar.
Those who use Xiaomi phones do not have to worry
As of now, Google’s Pixel and Xiaomi phones come with a default call recorder on their dialer apps. So, if you have a Pixel or Xiaomi phone, you don’t need to panic.
Dangerous to record calls without anyone’s permission
A budget smartphone Samsung Galaxy A12, Reality C25, Oppo K10, OnePlus all Android phones have call recording feature. If your calls are being recorded without your permission then it is a threat to your privacy. But in some places like customer care it is necessary to record the call, then there it is already told that this call is being recorded for future training purpose. The difference here is that you are being told that the call is being recorded.
Recording phone calls illegal in Europe
On the other hand, if this call is being recorded with a stranger or acquaintance or professional contact, then it is really dangerous. Call recording without anyone’s permission is dangerous. In almost all of Europe where it is illegal to record any phone call. This is the reason why Xiaomi phones sold in Europe do not support call recording.
