What are Bot Accounts: Musk put on hold the Twitter deal because of them

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has put hold the deal to buy Twitter due to fake i.e. bot accounts on twitter. Twitter reported that bot accounts make up less than 5% of total users, but Musk thinks it could be 20% to 90%. Musk has said he will only go ahead with the deal after receiving evidence from Twitter to support his claim. On the other hand, it is claimed that Musk can exit this $44 billion deal and clone Twitter.

What are bot accounts and what role they play

Bots are automated accounts that can behave like humans. Like tweeting, following, liking and retweeting a user. Because of this feature, spambots are used to provide deceptive, malicious and aggressive activities. Spam bots are programmed to tweet for a product or service to drive traffic to the site. They can also be used to spread misinformation and promote political messages. May also spread links to financial scams. Concerns were raised during the 2016 US presidential election that Russian bots helped create an atmosphere in favor of Donald Trump. Bots can also spread links to financial scams. At the time of announcing the acquisition, Musk said that taking action against spam bots committing cryptocurrency scams would be a priority.

Twitter allows bots on its platform. It also launched the @tinycarebot label for “good” bots. However, the platform does not allow spam bots. Accounts with suspicious activity will be suspended. For the payout, the user may have to provide a telephone number or solve a recaptcha. Spam accounts will also be blocked.

What would Musk do?

Musk has said he wants to improve Twitter by eliminating spam bots and authenticating people. They will take action against spam bots using a security system like Recaptcha. Twitter can use more than one authentication process. What’s at stake Users frustrated by spam bots and fraudulent activity may turn away from Twitter. At the same time, due to actions against spam bots, fake accounts will be cleaned, then the total number of Twitter users will be reduced.
