iOS 16 will display Football and Basketball Scores on the Lock Screen

Users of iOS 16 will be able to follow, in real time, the results of football, basketball and baseball games on the iPhone’s lock screen, as revealed by Apple . The scores will be viewed through the Live Activities function, one of the new features of the next generation of the operating system.

This new feature will initially be available for National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB) and Premier League (UK football league) matches. It will be possible to indicate your favorite teams, in each competition, to follow the scores live.

According to Apple, the real-time results on the iOS 16 lock screen will be offered according to the country you are in. Notifications about NBA matches, for example, will be available in the US and Canada, at least initially, as well as those for the English league. NBA live scores will be displayed on the iPhone lock screen.

iPhone lock screen will be accessible in more locations than the US and Canada, including Mexico, Japan, South Korea, the UK, Australia and even Brazil, where baseball is not as popular. . It is worth remembering that Apple TV+ broadcasts American league games.

More real-time notifications

In addition to the sports scores, iOS 16’s live activities will also be used by other apps installed on the phone. The user will be able to follow the status of an Uber ride, the progress of a food delivery, data from fitness trackers and programmed alarms, for example. However, the feature will not be offered in the public release of the new version of the system. Apple is expected to include Live Activities in a future software update as part of iOS 16.1 or iOS 16.2.
