Elvis is the latest movie to make its HBO Max debut
The must-see film from visionary Oscar-nominated director Baz Luhrmann, which tells the story of music’s greatest and most influential legend, Elvis Presley, premieres September 2 on HBO Max.
With Austin Butler and two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, the film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic agent Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker over 20 years, from Presley’s early career to his unprecedented fame, juxtaposed with cultural shifts and the loss of innocence in America. This journey focuses on one of the most important people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Alongside Hanks and Butler, award-winning stage actress Helen Thomson (“Earths of Heaven,” “Rake”) plays Elvis’ mother Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge!” “Breath,”“ The Hero of Hacksaw Ridge”) is Elvis’ father Vernon, and Olivia DeJonge (“The Visitor,” “Stray Dolls”) is Priscilla. Luke Bracey (“The Hero of Hacksaw Ridge,” “Point Break”) is Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail Caesar!”) is Dixie Locke, David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, “Lion –The Long Road Home, “300”) is Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“Chicago 7,” “The Perfect Score”) becomes B.B. King, Xavier Samuel (“Forbidden Passions,” “Love & Friendship,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) is Scotty Moore and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“Power of the Dog”) is Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
