Windows 11 22H2 has a bug that delays File Transfers

Last week, there were several reports about another bug that seems to be affecting Windows 11 and this time it is directly related to file transfers.

On PCs that have upgraded to version 22H2 of the latest Microsoft operating system, users notice that the copy speed is greatly reduced, while the problem does not happen on computers that are not running that version. Microsoft has since confirmed the existence of this bug, claiming that performance can drop by around 40% on affected devices.

However, this statement caused a reaction on the Windows support forums. Some users claim that this estimate is far below the reality, and that their data transfer speed has dropped dramatically, much more than just 40%. Worse still, while we thought we’d found the source of the problem, namely the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, it appears the problem lies elsewhere.

A patch is in the works, but it could take several days at best before it hits PCs. Fortunately, there is a way around this Windows 11 22H2 issue. As the Redmond company points out, just use a file copy tool that does not use cache management.

To do this, use robocopy or xcopy commands directly in Terminal, like this: robocopy C:\source_folder\your_file C:\destination_folder or xcopy C:\source_folder\your_destination_file C:\destination_folder .

But as you can imagine, this solution is far from ideal, and not even practical. As such, it remains to wait for Microsoft’s solution, which should not take long to appear.
