Bad News for People using Google Chrome on Windows 7 or 8.1

Are your devices still running an old version of a Microsoft operating system, Windows 7 or 8.1? So pay close attention, as Google has just announced that it will end support for these two systems in Chrome 110, which is due for release on February 7, 2023.

While Google Chrome will continue to function after this update, it will no longer receive feature updates and security patches on devices running these operating systems. This increases the risks for users, and companies, of being victims of online attacks if they continue to use it.

“You’ll need to ensure your device is running Windows 10 or later to continue to receive future versions of Chrome,” Google says on its Chrome help blog.

Google Chrome 110 will be the last one compatible with Windows 7 and 8.1

Windows 7, which reached end of support in January 2020, still has a 10.68% share of the desktop market worldwide. This means that there are still many people all over the world using this operating system.

Windows 8.1, on the other hand, has a market share of just 2.7%. Since more and more applications are abandoning support for these two Microsoft systems, in addition to Chrome, the best thing users can do is migrate their devices to Windows 10, or if possible to Windows 11.
