Onedrive having issues with Windows 10 update

If you’re one of the millions of users who still use Windows 10, chances are you’re not properly using OneDrive. At least if the latest operating system update is installed. In fact, this update caused problems for many users, and Microsoft itself has already embraced these problems.

But what happens to OneDrive on Windows 10? At the moment it seems that some very specific actions cause the application to just quit and other actions cause the application to show some error messages. For example, this can happen when the user logs out of their OneDrive account, when they try to uninstall the application, or simply try to interact with files or folders in Teams or Sharepoint.

And what is the cause of this problem? KB5018410 is the source of the issue that is also manifested in the Standard and Enterprise versions of OneDrive. Likewise, Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2 users seem to be affected. As is often the case in such situations, simply uninstalling the update will fix the error, at least while you wait for a real fix from Microsoft.

That being said, it should also be noted that KB5018410 is a security patch. In other words, uninstalling it is like exposing yourself to the hacker threats that the update offers protection against. So it remains to be determined, whether you prefer to be affected by the bug, or a little more exposed in terms of security.

However, it is good to know that Microsoft is already working on a patch to definitively solve this Onedrive problem and that it should be deployed “next week”
