OPPO announces the Air Glass 2: Its “assisted” Reality Glasses

OPPO took advantage of Inno Day 2022 to announce Air Glass 2, its new “assisted” reality glasses (the term was chosen by OPPO itself). The shift in term from “augmented reality” to “assisted reality” is much less misleading. Even lighter and ultra-compact than its predecessor, Air Glass 2 cannot incorporate the necessary electronics for true augmented reality rendering. The user should be satisfied with a display of data overlaid on the real environment and not integrated into that environment in the form of an AR rendering.
The Air Glass 2 have a diffractive lens with surface relief, a technological innovation by OPPO, which probably explains the gain in compactness. The advantage of this novelty is that it is possible to adapt the diffractive lens to the user’s vision. We will not know more details about its technical sheet, knowing that OPPO focuses mainly on the functions made available, whether mobile calls, real-time translation, or even GPS navigation.
The company has not yet specified its price or availability date, and everything indicates that, like the first model, these new generation glasses will be destined exclusively for the Chinese market.
