Bad decisions that overshadowed Meta in 2022

This year proved to be difficult for Facebook-owned tech giant Meta. The reason for this was the company’s own decisions. Meta saw rival social media platform Tiktok as a threat to their future. Keeping that in mind, made several plans. Whether it is doubling the recommended content on Instagram or trying to create a metaverse.  6 decisions proved to be a nightmare.

  1. In February, Meta lost $ 237 billion (Rs 19.5 lakh crore) in one night, which is the biggest one-day loss in the US. Even after this, the company continued to work on the model of ‘pleasing the co-founder Mark Zuckerberg’ and spent more money on the Metaverse version.
  2. COO Sheryl Sandberg left the company in June after 14 years at the helm. She was one of the top female executives in a male-dominated sector who made Meta a profit-making company in the advertising business. After he left, there was nothing stopping Zuckerberg from investing money in the Metaverse.
  3. Instagram doubled recommended content in Q2 to beat TikTok in the race. It was expected that the use of the app would increase, but Instagram users considered it a copy of Tiktok.
  4. Meta introduced Blenderbot 3, an AI chatbot that aims to move forward with a broader approach to diversity. But on January 6, it proved to be anti-Semitic.
  5.  In the desire to create a metaverse, the name of Facebook was changed to Meta. Horizon Worlds debuted in August. In this, the part below the waist of the avatar was missing. Worlds faced criticism from users.
  6.  Zuckerberg then added legs to the avatars of the people on Horizon. Performance was fine for some time. Then a video editor explained that Meta achieved this with motion capture technology. This caused the demo to fail.
