Twitter to allow Political Ads on its Platform

Twitter changes its mind on political ads.

Bought by Elon Musk, who is temporarily at the helm, Twitter is now changing its mind and has announced a relaxation of its rules on advertising for causes. A flexibility that will soon be in effect for political advertisements.

The Twitter ad is for the United States. It’s not very detailed yet, but it will be later. Previously, the ban was complete (or almost) for political ads. As ads refer to general interest ads and are governed by a set of restrictions that are now bypassed as long as they target the United States only. Twitter evokes an evolution towards a model similar to that of television or other means of communication.

It’s hard not to place the social network’s announcement in the context of the exit of advertisers following the Elon Musk takeover and his vision of moderation in ads. For the New York Times, Twitter’s decision may, in fact, allow the group to increase its revenue by trying to attract advertisers to its platform again. On the other hand, they point out that there are no national elections scheduled for this year 2023 in the USA.
