How AI is being used in the justice system?

Artificial intelligence interferes everywhere and constantly expands its fields of competence: health, graphic arts, chatbot, games of all kinds (Go, Chess, etc.), server management, no field of activity seems to escape, nor even… justice.
AI is being used in the justice system in a variety of ways, including:
- Predictive policing: Using AI to analyze crime data and predict where crimes are likely to occur in order to deploy police resources more effectively.
- Sentencing recommendations: AI is being used to assist judges and parole boards in making sentencing and parole decisions by analyzing factors such as a defendant’s prior criminal history and the severity of the crime.
- Fraud detection: AI is being used to detect fraudulent activity in areas such as insurance claims and financial transactions.
- Legal research: AI is being used to assist lawyers in legal research by analyzing large amounts of legal documents and identifying relevant information.
DoNotPay will soon use an Artificial Intelligence for legal assistance in the context of a dispute related to a speeding ticket.
The legal support of the AI will be extremely advanced: the accused will have a headset during the proceedings, which will allow him to directly receive the instructions from that AI or even the answers to be given to the judges. This type of use in a courtroom is unprecedented in the world.
Not much is known about the technological aspects of this AI, except that it would be partially based on OpenAI’s GPT chatbot engine. The trial in question will take place in February. DoNotPay is careful not to specify the exact date and we also do not know in which court the case will be tried.
