Bigscreen announces Beyond: New ultra-compact Virtual Reality Headset

Bigscreen isn’t a very befitting new thing, as its first Virtual Reality headset is an ultra-compact device called the Beyond. The publisher of “cinema-style” VR visualization software is therefore banking on VR hardware: the Beyond headset weighs just 127 grams, or 170 grams if you add the headrest strap, making it by far the lightest headset on the market. Marketplace. Getting to be lighter than the HTC Vive Flow, which weighs only 189 grams.
Despite its small dimensions, the Beyond doesn’t skimp on high-end components, including dual 5K OLED screens (5,120 x 2,560 pixels) with a 90Hz refresh rate, pancake lenses, a 93° FoV (not folio in absolute terms, but very good for such a compact headset), not to mention the 6DoF tracking.
To gain in compactness, Bigscreen had the idea of using the smartphone for certain headset configurations. More precisely, these settings only currently work with an iPhone equipped with the TrueDepth sensor zone (XR model at least).
Corrective optics can also be added, which is logical as the headset is not suitable for users who need glasses. Too bad that in the end such a compact headset only works connected to a PC equipped with at least a GeForce RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 5700 XT.
We can also regret that, for 999 dollars, no controllers are included in the box (Beyond is compatible with all Steam VR accessories) and that you have to buy an audio bracelet to be able to have sound in addition to the image.
So we’re skeptical that this headset from Bigscreen is available for pre-order for $999 and available this summer in the US before it hits Europe and later in Canada. Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
