Google releases first Beta version of Privacy Sandbox on Android

In 2022, Google announced the Privacy Sandbox on Android, an industry-wide initiative to raise the level of user privacy and ensure continued access to free content and services.

Building on the company’s ongoing efforts on the Web, they say they are developing solutions for digital advertising that limit user data sharing and that don’t rely on cross-application identifiers.

Over the past year, they’ve worked closely with the industry to gather feedback and begin testing these new technologies. Now the company has started a new phase of this initiative, by making the first Beta version of Privacy Sandbox available on Android for eligible devices. With the Beta version, users and developers will be able to try and evaluate these new solutions in the real world.

The Beta version of Privacy Sandbox on Android will roll out gradually, starting with a small percentage of devices running Android 13 and expanding over time.

Privacy Sandbox begins testing on users’ smartphones

Participating devices will be randomly determined, and if your device is selected for this test, you will be notified via an operating system notification. This Beta version provides new APIs that are designed with privacy at the heart and do not use identifiers that can track your activity across applications and websites.
