Need a VPN? Microsoft Edge is offering up to 5GB of data

Since last February, Microsoft Edge offers a secure network feature (Edge Secure Network). Although it is not a “classic” VPN, as it is impossible, for example, to choose your location, it is still very useful for guaranteeing an appearance of anonymity, encrypting your communications and hiding your IP address, making it undetectable.

Also, the feature is very useful as Microsoft has limited the amount of data that can be consumed free of charge by the VPN to 1GB per month. That’s not enough in our hyper-connected world, where streaming is growing by the day.

After testing a 5GB free usage limit with a select group of users, Microsoft has therefore decided to multiply by five the amount of data that can be used through Microsoft Edge’s integrated VPN. At first, only testers from the Insiders program of the Canary channel will know about this gift, but it is a matter of time before all users can also benefit from these extra gigs.

The opportunity is too good for Microsoft to attract new users to its browser which, despite the company’s efforts, cannot compete with Chrome, which dominates all competition. Combining all platforms, it is regularly used by only 5% of Internet users worldwide.

While the 5GB data envelope certainly won’t allow you to enjoy the overseas catalog of a streaming service, Netflix is also blacklisted by the VPN, it will usually suffice for times when you need to connect securely to a critical service in a network with little or no security, at a train station, at the airport, or even at the hotel where you spend your holidays… and these are just a few examples.
