Introducing the 2024 Honda Prologue: Details on Honda’s Electric SUV and Charging Initiatives

Honda has unveiled further details about its inaugural all-electric SUV, the 2024 Prologue. This vehicle will be available for ordering later this year, with the initial deliveries slated for early 2024.

According to Lance Woelfer, the Assistant VP of Honda National Auto Sales, the Prologue represents a significant milestone for the brand as it embarks on the journey toward a zero-emissions future. Honda has set an ambitious goal of achieving 100% zero-emissions vehicle sales by the year 2040.

The Prologue is expected to feature an 85kWh General Motors Ultium battery that, based on internal testing, is anticipated to offer a range of approximately 300 miles on a single charge. However, Honda is currently finalizing these numbers through testing with the EPA, so the official range estimate may undergo adjustments before the vehicle’s release.

Pricing details for the Prologue have yet to be finalized, but Honda anticipates that it will start in the upper $40,000 range before factoring in any applicable government incentives or tax credits. Although the Prologue is not currently eligible for the $7,500 US federal tax credit, potential buyers may still be able to take advantage of state-level incentives.

Both the Prologue and the forthcoming Acura ZDX, Acura’s first all-electric vehicle expected in 2024, will be equipped with Combined Charging System (CCS) ports. These ports will be compatible with Tesla chargers via an adapter, aligning with the trend among automakers to provide drivers with a broader range of charging options.

In 2025, Honda plans to transition from GM’s battery platform to its proprietary “e-Architecture” and adopt the Tesla-backed North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports for its vehicles.

Additionally, Honda has announced new partnerships with fast charging companies EVgo and Electrify America. These collaborations will offer customers “single-app access” to their charging networks, along with significant incentives, including hundreds of dollars worth of free charging. Honda will also provide complimentary home chargers, along with an installation credit, as part of its commitment to supporting the transition to electric vehicles.
