Microsoft is testing a new change in Windows 11 that automatically activates its Copilot AI when the operating system starts on certain devices. Regarding this matter, the company has not disclosed many details yet, merely stating:
“We are testing the automatic launch of Copilot when Windows starts on widescreen devices with some Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. This can be managed in Settings > Personalization > Copilot.” The exact definition of “widescreen” for the company remains to be clarified. Settings can be turned off, “When you use a larger screen, Copilot opens automatically,” it states.
This approach by Microsoft is a way to promote its AI technology, likely drawing criticism from Windows users. It also bears similarities to the aggressive promotion of Microsoft Edge in Windows 11, which automatically launches instead of the default browser if you use the system’s widgets or search feature.
This new testing option comes days after Microsoft announced the inclusion of a dedicated key for its AI on future computer keyboards. Pressing it will initiate the AI and activate a chatbot.
