Microsoft ends support for the Surface Pro 5

Microsoft has decided to stop supporting its Surface Pro 5. This means that the tablet will no longer be entitled to updates, be they drivers, firmware or any other type of update other than the operating system.

As indicated on the Microsoft website, the end of support for the Surface Pro 5 has been a reality since January 15, 2024. This concerns both the Wi-Fi model and the Wi-Fi + 4G model.

The presentation of the Surface Pro 5 dates back to May 2017, and was just a small hardware update, to the point of having the same design as the fourth generation equipment. The tablet still offered some changes. For example, there is a fanless configuration with a seventh-generation Intel Core i5 processor. Superior models with an Intel Core i7 processor benefit from a redesigned thermal design for better heat dissipation.

So driver and firmware support is gone, but what about Windows updates?

They remain available at the moment. But it’s worth noting that this won’t last long as the tablet doesn’t have official support for Windows 11 and therefore remains with Windows 10. And as Microsoft has already said that Windows 10 will no longer be supported from 14 October 2025, it is natural that on that date the tablet will definitely stop being updated.
