Apple is set to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) directly into iOS 18, with processing reportedly occurring on the iPhone itself, independent of cloud services. This approach enhances security and privacy, contrasting with cloud-dependent solutions.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter, Apple‘s AI features will operate entirely on the device, potentially functioning without a data connection. Apple has been developing its proprietary in-house LLM, referred to internally as “Ajax,” aimed at enabling efficient AI processing on devices like the iPhone, as detailed by Apple researchers in December. Moreover, Apple has bolstered its AI capabilities through strategic acquisitions in recent years.

Initially, the AI technology is anticipated to enhance features in Messages, Safari, Spotlight Search, and Siri. Apple is expected to unveil further details about its AI strategy at the WWDC event in June.

During Apple’s April earnings call, CEO Tim Cook emphasized the company’s significant investment in AI development, reflecting its commitment to advancing AI technologies.
