How to Set Up and Manage Amazon Family for Shared Echo and Prime Benefits

Amazon Echo dot

If you own an Amazon Echo and want to share its features with your family, setting up an Amazon Family (previously called Amazon Household) is a great way to go. This feature allows you to link multiple Amazon accounts so each person can enjoy various Prime benefits. Every family member will need their own Amazon account, but once linked, all participants can access shared features.

Who Can Join an Amazon Family?

An Amazon Family group can include:

  • Up to two adults (ages 18+)

  • Four teens (ages 13–17)

  • Four children (ages 12 and under)

Children can interact with Echo devices using Amazon Kids, which provides a safer, more age-appropriate experience. Teens can shop and stream content but won’t be able to use Echo or Alexa under their individual accounts.

Adding Another Adult

To get started:

  1. Go to the Amazon Family page and log in.

  2. Click “Create Your Amazon Family”.

  3. Enter the name and email of the adult you’d like to invite—perhaps a spouse or partner.

  4. Click Continue, then choose whether to share payment methods. You can either link wallets or keep them separate.

  5. Next, select the types of content you want to share, like:

    • Prime Reading and Kindle eBooks

    • Prime Gaming content

    • Audible audiobooks

Click Send Invitation, and the invitee will receive an email to join. They’ll need to accept the invite, agree to share their digital wallet (if applicable), and choose the content they’d like to share.

Adding a Teen (Update as of April 2025)

Previously, you could add teens to your Amazon Family, allowing them to shop with approval and stream content. However, as of April 7, 2025, Amazon has discontinued the option to add new teens. Existing teen profiles will remain active until the user turns 18, with ongoing parental oversight.

Adding a Child

You can still add children under 13 to your Amazon Family:

  1. Head to the Amazon Family webpage.

  2. Click New, then select “Add a Child” from the pop-up.

  3. Enter the child’s first name, birth date, and pick a profile icon.

  4. Click Create to finalize.

The child’s profile will now appear on your Amazon Family dashboard. From here, you can:

  • View or edit the profile

  • Set up Amazon Kids to give them access to specific Alexa-enabled devices

This ensures a safe, customized experience tailored to your child’s age and needs.
