Apple cancels the launch of the alleged iPhone SE 4

Since the launch of the iPhone SE 5G, which took place in early 2022, and which was quite disappointing due to the lack of new features and some of its components dated from another era, several rumors have already mentioned a successor: the iPhone SE 4.
Initially planned for release this year 2023, it was later pushed back to a 2024 release. One thing was for sure, it would benefit from an all-new design with a notch inherited from the latest generation iPhones.
The problem is that renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has proven himself many times well informed, reported that Apple was considering its options for its next affordable smartphone. According to him, there is every reason to believe that the Cupertino giant would postpone mass production of the device due to the historically low sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE… and should even have taken an even more drastic decision.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the supply chain received instructions from Apple that production and shipping plans for the iPhone SE 4 were canceled rather than postponed. So we simply wouldn’t be entitled to an iPhone SE 4 in 2024, and no replacement is on the horizon for years to come. This cancellation could have significant consequences for Apple’s next high-end smartphones. According to the same, Apple originally planned to launch its home modem in 2024 and let the low-cost iPhone SE 4 adopt it first. The latter would aim to increase Apple’s independence from one of its main suppliers, Qualcomm. However, Apple is concerned that its own chip’s performance won’t be able to compete with Qualcomm’s flagship modems.
So the strategy would have been to launch it on the more affordable iPhone SE, so that no one could complain about the performance. Upon receipt of the smartphone, Apple could have used it in its iPhone 16 in 2024, but the cancellation of the iPhone SE 4 could mean that Apple is not about to let go of Qualcomm.
