Education and Artificial Intelligence

Though we still don’t have robots that can think like people, AI has been making ground-breaking changes in our daily lives. This smart technology is everywhere, helping us park our cars, recognizing who people are as they enter an airport or office building, or searching for what you need online after telling your phone or other appliance what you need.

In the field of education, AI is viewed by many as the next step in helping students learn better. The following are some areas where AI is changing education.

#1 Personalized learning

According to the research of custom dissertation services, current difficulty of most school systems is that not everybody receives the help they need. Although the system is designed to help the majority, the problem occurs when a student is way ahead of others or, even more problematic, well-below. And even if a student belongs in the middle, the teacher-to-student ratio also poses a problem as teachers cannot monitor everyone’s needs.

With AI, however, the hope is that every student’s needs are catered to. Similar to how some apps can give recommendations based on a user’s habits, AI in education hopes to do the same by recommending activities and further readings based on real-time assessment. It may even be possible that quizzes and exams can be adjusted according to a student’s level.

Instant feedback is another advantage of AI. Rather than waiting for days for results, AI learning apps can inform the student about their problem and suggest how to improve.

#2 Applicable course content (smart content) from around the world

If AI can adjust activities and assessments to what a student needs, it can also adjust the course content found in the materials students use. Dubbed “smart content,” this is a big help to schools as there is no need to discard books and worksheets just because something becomes obsolete. Schools may also tailor the content according to what they believe ought to be taught to students, as not everything found in textbooks is considered necessary to a school’s goals or a teacher’s needs.

Moreover, with AI searching education databases around the world, schools can be assured that the content used is very relevant. This is a big advantage as the content is not limited to local sources.

#3 Administrative tasks are simplified

One final advantage is that AI can support the administrative needs of teachers. Despite access to the internet, it still takes a lot of time to search for relevant content online. As stated earlier (point #2), since AI can assist in the content search, teachers have more time to focus on the students. The checking of quizzes and exams also becomes easier if learning apps are used. This again gives teachers more time to go through the lessons without worrying about all the papers they need to check.

Summary

These are but a few benefits of what AI can do for education. Hopefully, more innovations will come about soon, and more schools will recognize these advantages and invest for the sake of their students and teachers.
