Google developing its own “AirTag”

The Apple AirTag has been a wildly successful product for the apple company. For those who don’t know what it is, it’s an object tracker that you can place anywhere to find out its location thanks to an application on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. And second is now being revealed, Google wants to compete with its own similar product.
As it is being revealed, the equivalent of Google’s AirTag is codenamed Grogu. It is in reference to the name of the character from the series The Mandalorian, from Disney +, who wants to be of the same species as Yoda (famous character in the Star Wars universe). Grogu isn’t very big, so Google must have had the idea to link it with their future little product.
Google’s object tracker would therefore be very similar to an AirTag. It could include a speaker, be available in multiple colors and support Bluetooth LE as well as ultra-wideband (UWB).
Since the Pixel 6, Google has included UWB technology in its phones. However, the company hasn’t done anything really remarkable with this system. By releasing an object tracker, the company could take advantage of this technology, allowing users to get specific location data for their tracker and therefore what it is connected to (keys, bags, wallets, etc.).
Currently there is no further information about the name, price or release date. Either way, it will be interesting to see how Google competes with Apple’s Locate network. Suffice it to say, it could be more than remarkable given the number of Android smartphones in circulation. At Apple, the Locate network relies exclusively on iPhones.
