Google Duplex on the Web discontinues
Duplex was the name chosen by Google to indicate the different technologies studied by its teams of programmers to manage the most boring and repetitive tasks by users, allowing them to dedicate themselves to other activities.
The official launch of Google Duplex took place in 2018, presented at the time as a very convenient solution for various operations and one of the examples made was the reservation of a restaurant instead of the user through a telephone call made by this system simulating the human voice . The following year, Google decided to bring the Duplex experience to the Web as well, in order to allow users to perform more and more tasks automatically, such as buying cinema or theater tickets.
Web Duplex is deprecated and will no longer be supported as of December 2022. All automation features enabled by Web Duplex will no longer be supported after that date.
We remind you that in recent years the functionalities supported by this system have gradually increased and other possibilities have been added to the purchase of cinema tickets, such as assistance in the procedures for purchasing products and services online, assistance in purchasing food in restaurants, assistance in procedures boarding and even support for changing passwords.
It seems that behind this decision by Google is, on the one hand, the low use of the service and, on the other, the desire on the part of programmers to focus above all on the call system based on Artificial Intelligence, a solution that will be improved in the coming months.
