iOS 16.2 expected to be released next week

iOS 16.2 expected to be released next week

Apple has been working on several beta versions of iOS 16.2. since the end of last October. If the latest information is to be believed, the Cupertino company could release the update between the next 12th or 16th of December. With that in mind, a final version of the “beta” should be released tomorrow, December 6th.

Beta versions of iOS allow programmers to test Apple’s latest features before they are released to the general public. It is possible to join Apple’s developer program and thus have access to beta versions of iOS, iPadOS and MacOS, but this movement involves risks.

The “beta” are “test” versions of iOS and, therefore, it is possible to find bugs during their use. Today, four beta versions of iOS 16.2 have already been released by Apple. Generally, the company publishes 5 versions before releasing the Candidate version, which is the version that comes immediately before the final version. But the timing of these year-end holidays may force Apple to offer its Candidate version this week and thus publish the update 10 to 15 days before Christmas.

Such a schedule allows Apple a few days after the update is released to make corrections and offer a stable and reliable operating system for new Apple customers who have had an iPhone under the tree.

Last year, Apple adopted a similar strategy, offering only 4 beta versions of iOS 15.2 and releasing the final version of the update on December 13, 2021.

Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter and Apple business insider, expects the update to roll out the week of December 12th. This update should allow users to discover Freeform, a collaborative application. In the rest of the expected news, Apple is expected to significantly improve its Home application and its connection with HomeKit.

Apple is also working on “live activity” widgets available on the iPhone’s lock screen since the release of iOS 16. This iOS 16.2 would be an opportunity to roll out yet another improvement to this feature, which aims to allow third-party apps to use this service and update it more regularly. However, Apple specifies that this option can have an impact on the device’s autonomy, without ever specifying how much the battery will be degraded.

As for the latest iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, with iOS 16.2 Apple is adding the ability to not show wallpaper or notifications when the “Always On Screen” option is enabled. This feature allows you to keep your iPhone “in sleep mode” without completely turning off the screen. With the update it will be possible to make the “sleep” deeper.
