Latest Microsoft Windows 11 Update: “Moment Update”
There are new indications that after the release of Windows 11 22H2 Microsoft will start releasing a new type of updates for its operating system, called “Moment Update”, which will focus exclusively on the implementation of new features.
It is not entirely clear whether these updates will only be used for Windows 11 22H2 or if they will remain constant in the future of the operating system; information that has emerged so far suggests that there will be at least two “Moment Updates” this release cycle before the release of Windows 11 23H2, which will arrive next year. In short, there seems to be one with the Feature Drops used by Google for its Pixels.
Windows 11 22H2 Moment Update 1 is expected to arrive around October, while Moment 2 sometime during the year 2023. The big news for Moment 1 will be the tabbed browsing of the File Explorer, a feature that already It’s been being tested on the Insider circuit for a few weeks now. There was already a chance that it would be released with the initial release of 22H2 (expected for this month, probably the launch will take place on September 20th), but apparently Microsoft has decided that it needs more time to improve its user experience. At the same time, the suggested actions, and other small improvements, should come back to File Explorer.
The two main sources that discussed the new format of updates, on the social network Twitter, in the last few hours, the well-known leakers Albacore and Xeno, believe that the development team will focus on the two Moment Updates before thinking about Windows 23H2, so the two projects do not go ahead in parallel.
It is worth mentioning that the name “Moment Update” has not been officially confirmed (as indeed the very existence of the initiative). In practice, current updates will behave like any other cumulative update and will be distributed via Windows Update. Patches should however change the OS build number: Moment 1 will be 228xx, Moment 2 instead of 229xx.
