Microsoft Teams Introduces New Video Filters for Enhanced Call Experience

Frequent users of Microsoft Teams are well aware of the application’s constant need for updates. However, Microsoft has now introduced a solution to enhance the visual appeal of video calls through the inclusion of new filters. These video filters for Microsoft Teams offer a novel approach to eliminate distractions from your video feed and incorporate different effects. They are available in a variety of animated styles and filters that can modify the hue of your video feed.
Similar to choosing backgrounds, you can apply these filters in the desktop version of Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 and macOS before joining the meeting directly from the lobby. You can also choose video filters directly in the meeting experience, in the section with video effects. No extra work is needed to find the feature as it will be active by default.
If you’re wondering what’s behind those filters… you might have guessed, it’s the artificial intelligence and infrastructure of the Teams Platform. Microsoft has released some of these filters as part of its own application called Custom Filters, with the promise that more will be added soon.
Regarding privacy, administrators will have complete control over this feature and can activate or deactivate it through the Microsoft Teams admin console. However, this new feature is currently unavailable to Teams users in the education sector. In addition to this, Microsoft is also developing support for spatial audio, which aims to provide a more natural meeting experience that simulates the feeling of being in the same room as other participants. This feature is listed on the Microsoft 365 roadmap and is expected to be incorporated into the desktop application by the end of May next year.
