NotebookLM Now Supports Public Link Sharing for Easier Collaboration

Google has simplified how users share their NotebookLM creations. You can now generate public links for your notebooks and AI-generated podcasts, making it easier to share with friends, classmates, or colleagues.

The new system mirrors Google Docs-style sharing: click the Share button at the top right of your notebook, switch access to “Anyone with the link,” and copy the link to distribute it.

Until now, sharing required inputting email addresses manually for each recipient. The new method streamlines this process by allowing a single link to be shared broadly.

At launch, these public links are read-only. While recipients can view notebook content, listen to audio summaries, explore the FAQ section, and ask follow-up questions, editing is restricted. To grant someone editing permissions, you’ll still need to enter their email and change their role from Viewer to Editor.

NotebookLM, introduced in 2023 as an experimental web app, recently launched on Android and iOS. It allows users to compile and organize various content types—including PDFs, documents, websites, audio, and YouTube videos—into a structured digital notebook. It’s ideal for school, work, or personal research projects, offering features like AI-generated summaries, question answering, and simulated podcast-style conversations.

Google has steadily improved the platform. A December update enabled users to jump into AI-generated audio conversations by posing real-time questions. In April, Google introduced a Discover Sources feature, which allows users to begin research from scratch by simply describing a topic. The system then finds relevant material automatically.
