Researchers Discover that Mushrooms Communicate with each other
You must have always heard that there is life in plants too. This time a shocking thing related to the life of plants has come to the fore. For the first time, scientists have claimed that mushrooms also talk among themselves. Mushroom is also called fungus.
According to the information, Professor Andrew Adamatzky of the University of England has done this research. These mushrooms talk their mind to each other just like humans. They also have their own dictionary which consists of 50 words. It has been told that the length of each word of mushroom is about 6 letters.
Uses electric impulses for conversation
The firing rate of these impulses has even been shown to increase when the hyphae of wood-digesting fungi come into contact with blocks of wood, increasing the possibility that fungi are using this electrical language to share information about food or injury with distant parts of themselves , or with hyphal-connected partners such as trees.
But do these traits of electrical activity have anything in common with human language?
Mycorrhizal fungal hotspots are considered threatened by agriculture, urbanization, pollution, water scarcity and climate change. Global networks of subterranean fungi are mapped for the first timeRead more To investigate, Prof Andrew Adamatzky of the University of the West of England’s unconventional computing laboratory in Bristol analyzed the patterns of electrical spikes emitted by four species of fungi Enoki, Split Gill, Ghost and Caterpillar fungi. He did this by inserting tiny microelectrodes into substrates colonized by their patchwork of hyphae, their hreads, their mycelia. We do not know if there is a direct relationship between spiking patterns in fungi and human language. Possibly not, said Adamatzky. On the other hand, there are many similarities in information processing in living substrates of different classes, families and species. I was just curious to compare.
In this research, Andrew has claimed that mushrooms have both brain and consciousness. Mushrooms have electrical impulses just like human language. This is called electric activity. They share happiness and sometimes sorrow to each other just like human beings through electrical impulses i.e. waves of electricity.
Provides information about dangers
It has also been told in the study that mushrooms tell each other about the upcoming weather and danger. In this research published in the Royal Society Open Science, Professor Andrew said that more research is being done about whether there is a relationship between the spiking pattern of mushrooms and the language of humans. However, some scientists believe that more research is needed on this. It is too early to call this electric impulses a language so soon.
Research was on four species
There are 6 letters in each word of mushroom. This research has been done on four species of mushroom, enoki, split gill, ghost and caterpillar. According to Professor Andrew, the average length of each word is about 6 letters.
