Russia Ukraine War: More than 40 killed in Heavy Bombardment from Three Directions, the Largest Military action in Europe since World War II

Heavy bombardment from three directions, destruction by air, land and sea.  In protest against the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that we have severed our diplomatic ties with Russia. Zelensky declared martial law in the country, saying that Russia had targeted Ukraine’s military infrastructure.

According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of people have been injured. The adviser to the Ukrainian President has claimed at least 40 people killed. The Russian Military says it has destroyed its air defense systems, destroying 74 military bases and 11 air bases in Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine has spoken of destroying five Russian fighter planes and several tanks. Heavy bombardment has triggered a large exodus from many areas of the country. People are searching for a safe haven to save their lives. Many countries have also started vacating their embassies from Kiev. While the stock market across the world saw a fall due to the attack, the prices of gold and petrol rose significantly.

 

World leaders, including US President Joe Biden, strongly condemned Russia for the attack. However, global forces say they will not intervene militarily in the defense of Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin justified the attack and warned Western nations that any attempt to interfere with Russian action would have “results that no one had seen before.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that we will retaliate against the sanctions.

Loud explosions were heard in Kiev (the capital), Kharkiv, Odessa and other cities in Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian military claimed that it destroyed Ukraine’s entire air defense system in a matter of hours. European authorities have declared Ukraine’s airspace as an active conflict zone. Russia’s Defense Ministry says the military has used lethal weapons to target Ukrainian airbases and military infrastructure.

Adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko said on Facebook that Russian forces launched missile attacks on Ukrainian command facilities, air bases and military reserves in Kiev, Kharkiv and Dnipro.

 

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba described the action as a full-blown attack on Ukraine and a trespassing war. He said that Ukraine will defend itself and achieve victory. He said that the world must stop Putin and he can stop. It’s time to work.

The mayor of the capital Kiev, Vitaly Klitschko, has advised residents to leave the house only when there is an urgent need. He also said that in case they need to vacate the house, keep their belongings ready along with necessary documents.
