Twitter: Several third-party apps mysteriously stopped working

Tweetbot, Twitterific and other third-party applications to access the Twitter social network stopped working a few hours ago. The problem is that nobody knows what it is or the causes of this sudden failure. It is not known, therefore, whether this is a simple bug or a voluntary action by the social network to cut off access.

Naturally, the social network has its own application, allowing users to view tweets from accounts they follow, private messages and much more. But the social network has also been offering an API for years that allows third-party applications to access the platform in their own way and thus offer a different interface, different features and zero advertising.

Apps like Tweetbot and Twitterific have their followings, with users saying they don’t like the official app. Suffice it to say that sadness reached them a few hours ago, knowing that third-party applications stopped working. Both confirmed the problems accessing Twitter:

“We’ve reached out to Twitter for more details, but have not received a response,” says Tweetbot, hoping “this is just a temporary issue and we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.”

Twitterific already published a similar message: “We still don’t know what the root cause is, but we are trying to find out”.

As mentioned before, one of the peculiarities of third-party Twitter applications is that they do not display any advertising. That is the point that has bothered the new leadership of the social network since Elon Musk took over its networks, knowing that he has repeatedly made it clear that the service needs to make money.

However, this is just a hypothesis. But, as stated before, there is currently no official communication on the matter.
